    Dr. Bertha M. Martin

My daughter Beryl was a highly independent and focused young woman. Beryl knew that Dean College was exactly where she wanted to be as a college student. From her first day on campus, Beryl worked hard to perfect her artistic and technical skills as a dance and theater major, demonstrating a work ethic that Professor Joan Palladino proudly establishes as “the barre” of excellence to this day!

Beryl’s theater and dance performances were always a source of enjoyment and pride to me, and I traveled regularly from my home in Washington D.C. to the Franklin campus to support her.

Over time, I also came to love and serve the Dean community as a College trustee (1989–1992), an honorary alumna (1993), and a member of the Parents Committee (2001).

I established the Beryl Martin Scholarship in my daughter’s memory, and I am pleased to know that this scholarship continues to assist aspiring performers. Having included a planned gift to Dean College in my estate plan, I know that my daughter’s legacy will remain strong for many years to come.
